Getting Traffic

There are numerous ways to get traffic. I'm going to describe the basics that I know and make more advanced posts later.

Before you start promoting your site and asking people to look at it. Ask yourself if it is something that you would take time to read. If it is not ask yourself why and fix the issues.
Usually all you need to attract people is something they find worth reading or looking at.

That being said, let us move on.
A good way to attract the wrong attention is thru traffic exchange. Sites like Easy Hits 4 U, Traffic G, or Traffic Swarm are only good for an uninterested audience. AKA a  poor quality hit.
You want attention from people who are interested in what you have to show or offer. Don't fall into the idea that marketing is easy.
Not that they might not be useful later, but for now I want to stick with an approach that would attract more common thoughts from the public than hoping someone finds what I say interesting.

A really fast and simple way to promote a website and get people to circulate it is thru a social network. Don't think of this as Facebook, Google+ or MySpace only. A social network is a gathering of people in a common place.
Ask people you work with to check out your site and ask them what they think. Hopefully they will like it enough to pass it along.
A good way to start this is with business cards. Even if your business card is a folded piece of notebook paper with the web address on it, that is a start.

Another good way to start getting your site into social circles is to mention in it forums. If your site is geared towards something specific find internet communities that are discussing the same things as your site in order to promote it.
If people like what you say they will share it. Just remember to be respectful when sharing your site.

After you start to get your site noticed pay attention to the feedback. Listen to peoples comments on if it is slow at loading, or repetitive content. Any type of negative feedback is good feedback. You will at least know what needs to be fixed and tended to.

One other good way to generate traffic is by linking to your other blogs or websites that you have started already. It never hurts to have a few uncommon links on your page, as long as they aren't considered spam and people find what is on the linked sites as relevant.
